Hey All,

My apologizes that the site has gone dark for a while. I just recently started a new gig at 343 Studios and so I am working a lot right now on an exciting project.

I am also getting married in the next few weeks, so that is taking up what little free time I had remaining, not that I'm complaining. :)

I don't expect I will have much free time in the months to come, so this blog may remain dark for a little while longer. I will try and post a doodle from time to time. Thank you to everyone who checks this site consistently, I promise it isn't dead, just in hibernating...

I wasn't very happy with the results of the BPR for the skin I was getting on Link so I went back and did another render this morning. I think I have figured out a good formula for BPR compositing the skin. I also found a better approach for the metal. Below are the results.

I'm working on another piece that I haven't previously posted but that has been churning off and on for the last year and a half. If I get it to a presentable point I will post a preview of it later tonight. Till then enjoy the new new Link render.

Hey, so finished the freelance I was doing for a colleague and didn't feel like getting back immediately to work on "Bat Man. So instead I jumped back to Link and did a full BPR render. Which is below.
I might go in and edit a few things like his hair and maybe add in an earring or two, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with the results.

Its come to my attention that by doing the edit posts like I have been for projects that is screws up anyone who is following the blog. Because the updates don't show up as recent posts. If anyone has a solution for this let me know. I want to try and keep the project structure I have right now, but I also want to people to know that I have updated stuff hah.

Anyhow I will try and get back to work on the Bat Man model next weekend unless something else comes up. Till then, happy sculpting...

Hey all, sorry for the lack of updates the last couple weeks. I'm doing some freelance for a friend which has taken up my usual weekend work time. When that is finished in the next couple of weeks I will be jumping back to working on a few recent characters and posting a few that I haven't shared with you yet.

Also, I'm mulling over the possibility of making available and selling several of the models that I have posted. Anatomy files, base meshes, etc. I wanted gauge if there was any interest. If that sounds appealing to any of you shoot me an email at khefley83@gmail.com or comment on this post.

I'm continuing to work on 'Bat' man, should have another update soon.

In the meantime I wanted to post something new up. So continuing the promise of going back to older work, and either reworking or updating it, I've posted a render image of Mikey I did a little while back. Check it out below, comments and feedback are welcome.

Posted a 'Pages' section on the left hand side, with the first of hopefully many tutorials I want to share. This first one covers ZBrush's Focal Angle and its conversion from Focal Length. This is something I've looked into for work and covers what I have been able to piece together. Its probably not the best method, but hell it works for me. So check it out and hopefully there will be more posted soon. Your feedback is appreciated.

Still in the process of reworking the site. Not happy with the banner yet, so that will probably be swapped out soon. I've uploaded some older updates into the Megaman and Naruto posts. I've changed this main status update from 'text' into an actual post, so I can retain previous updates without taking up too much room. Previous updates are now after the break (read more...)

In addition, I reactivated comments a few days ago, hopefully I can avoid spam this time. When I shut it down previously, eight out of every ten comments were ads or general spam. So lets see how this goes this time.

So I have been away for a little over a half a year. Lots has happened. I quit my Job at Activision down in LA, got out before all the layoffs, and moved my Fiance and I up to Seattle, WA. Where I now work for Microsoft working on some pretty cool titles.

I'm pretty backed up with professional projects and life keeps getting in the way, but I have some new personal work that I have been working on and some old stuff I have started to go back and rework. So those will be up shortly. Below are a couple new pieces that I started on recently, so I plan to post updates as I work on them.

Bear with me while I get everything organized, the site will be subtly adjusted over the next few days. I have already organized everything into projects, but I may condense things even more.

3/13/2011 - Detailing away. Got a few hours today to work on detailing the head. I need to do a similar pass on each hand before moving onto texturing.

3/7/2011 - WIP version of the pose I am working on for this character. Wanted to do something with him "coming into the light." The original base mesh I was using didn't have a mouth sock, so I had to seperate the head, so I am sorting out some blending issue at the moment. The body is still very wip and the clothing still needs some adjustment... but it is getting there.

3/01/11 - Added a shirt... not too much else to say at this juncture.

2/27/11 - Continuing to work on the head and some of the extra details. Tried to do a mixture of Marcus from Underworld, and the Bat Creature by Aris Kolokonte.While still trying to make it look somewhat original.

P.S. I'm trying a new linking for uploading images, google seems to have changed their compression when uploading photos, so the image above is going through Flickr. Any issues seeing it, shoot me an email.
